Baby sign language
Many of our centres practice ‘baby signing.’ Before children can speak, teachers and parents have found that teaching children to sign is a great way to avoid baby’s frustrations. Often during the so called terrible two’s the challenging behaviour happens because a child can’t make themselves understood.
She wants something but can’t get it appropriately or can’t communicate effectively. Signing allows toddlers to communicate clearly. This is great for places like church or the library.
Babies pick up basic signing very quickly. When babies realise they are communicating positively, the delight in their eyes is evident. Using signing empowers baby’s confidence, lowers frustration and certainly improves the eating environment!
See the list below of basic signing for you to do at home. This is the kind of enlightened care that you will get in a high quality childcare centre where teachers have had training and love learning new things to support children’s learning.
