Join us at our Open Days! Every Friday from 9am - 4pm
This is a great opportunity to come along and meet the teachers and have a guided tour of our fantastic centre.
First Steps Newmarket is a lovely centre situated in central Newmarket, just a few minutes’ drive from Remuera and Greenlane. From the moment you walk into the centre, you get a feeling of a home away from home. Our cottage appearance adds to the appeal of a warm and nurturing environment that has been well established by our team of caring, qualified teachers.
Our focus is to provide the best quality childcare and education in the greater Epsom area. We value play with natural objects and this is apparent throughout the centre. Our children learn through play and are encouraged by teachers to pursue an interest and explore their capabilities in a fun and stimulating environment. Supported by a range of targeted resources and toys, our centre promotes children’s ongoing learning and development from 3 months – 5 years.
We have two dedicated rooms in our homely centre, our Haumia room is resourced perfectly for little ones aged three months to two years old, with opportunities for our children to practice rolling, sitting, crawling and walking in a calm and nurturing environment. Our under two teachers encourage the very beginnings of communication with baby sign and using our babies’ home languages throughout the day. Our children are supported to grow and learn at their own pace with individual learning stories and careful planning unique to each and every child.
Our over two’s room enjoys a huge outdoor area with a brand new playground for our children to challenge themselves and promote healthy exercise under the supervision of teachers. Our principal of Tuakana Teina “older and younger children supporting each other” is very evident in this room, with our children encouraged to support each other in their learning. Our skilled teachers link numeracy and literacy to learning experiences throughout the day, naturally introducing our children to these essential skills. First Steps Newmarket provides a unique Be School Ready programme to ensure every child is well prepared for school. When children turn five, we recognise this special milestone with a graduation ceremony which whanau are invited to attend.
We have established a great sense of community spirit by holding parent teacher evenings and events such as Matariki, Chinese New Year, Diwali and Mothers and Fathers Day celebrations. We celebrate our culture’s rich culture diversity and welcome input from our parents and families.
Our children are encouraged to partake in sustainability as we reduce waste, reuse items for collage and recycle all unwanted items. Our vegetable garden is well established and gets seasonally upgraded with the help of the children. Whatever is grown comes back into the centre to be cooked and used for the children's meals.
Our qualified and dedicated teaching team are culturally diverse and able to communicate in a range of lnaguges, which brings a rich sense of diversity to the centre. First Steps Newmarket provides fun learning opportunities for children. Children are encouraged to bake and cook, learn about healthy eating. Events like our Be School Ready night, family gatherings, community visits to the centre from Fire Department, St. Johns and Police are organised every year.
We are now excited to offer our families access to Storypark e-portfolios. They are a great way to keep up to date with what you child is doing while at the centre. You can log in to the secure platform wherever you are in the world to see what's been happening in their day, check out photos of them and comment on their activities.
We welcome you to visit our wonderful centre today to see what we can offer your child.
