Topkids St. Lukes is a purpose build early learning centre, adjacent to the St. Lukes shopping mall. Top Kids is involved in a fantastic community with lots of support from local businesses.
We aim to provide high quality early childhood care and education in our community. Our child care centre offers superior facilities, individual education programmes, and well qualified and caring teachers.
Our programme caters for children from 3 months to 5 years in separate age appropriate areas because we think it supports children’s learning.
We believe play is the central activity of childhood – through play, young children learn about themselves and their world. Children’s learning depends on the freedom to actively experience the environment. Hence, our centre environment is run so that the children can decide for themselves what to do and when to do it. The environment/equipment is arranged and selected by our teachers in such a way that is safe, stimulating and promotes all round development.
The role of the adult in a self choice play programme is to be supportive to the child, responding in a child’s play ideas and extending their interests without taking over from the child.
A self choice programme promotes confidence, feelings of success, self-direction, independence, discovery, problem solving and decision making, opportunities to learn from mistakes, self-discipline, plus a lot more.
