Canterbury Earthquake Crisis
08 September 2010
Following the devastating earthquake in Christchurch on the weekend, families have been working through the widespread implications on them. All early childhood centres were closed on Monday and Tuesday. Late Tuesday the Ministry of Education ordered compulsory closure of our centres for the remainder of this week. We have had a structural engineer check and sign off all of our centre buildings and also undertaken full playground safety checks. All buildings and playgrounds have been declared safe. At this stage, centres will re-open next Monday 13 September.
The ongoing aftershocks may change their decisions if further infrastructure damage results in unacceptable risk to staff and children. The MOE continue to review the situation and will advise us of any change to their approval to open next Monday. We will continue to post updates on our website and Facebook as we are given this information. In addition, parents can call our 0800 Kidicorp number for further information. For those of you who have provided us with email addresses we will also email updates directly to you.
We hope that our staff and families have not suffered too much damage or personal injury. Our thoughts are with all in the region.
