


Guide to Healthy Eating
Most of our centres offer food, however some may ask you to bring a snack for your child. Here are some healthy nutritious ideas to feed your children.
Smart Snacking
A healthy snack must be low in fat, calorie and sugar, and most importantly, nutritious. Here are some healthy nutritious ideas that your kids will love:
- Plain popcorn
- Rice crackers (perfect to go with hummus or salsa)
- Boiled eggs (high in vitamin - good for the skin and help strengthen bones)
- Pikelets, crumpets
- Pretzels
- Nuts and dried fruits
Morning and Afternoon Tea Ideas
- Fruit salad muffins
- Fresh fruits - apples, bananas, oranges, pears, grapes, strawberries (fresh fruits are high in fiber and Vitamins C, low in fat and has no added sugar)
- Fruit salad or canned fruit
- Vegetables (celery sticks, vegetable sticks, baby carrots - these goes great with a hummus dip!)
- Mixture of fruits and vegetables on a kebab stick
Here's a tip:
Prepare a frozen water bottle for your child the night before, this ensures that he/she gets refreshing water for the next day.
Dairy Products, Meat Products and Alternatives
It is important that your child gets enough protein and calcium throughout the day. This will keep them energized at the same time improve brain activity!
- Fruit or plain yoghurt
- Classic cheese slices with crackers (simple and healthy, high in protein and calcium)
- Cheese in sandwiches
- Baked beans or corn toasties
- Cold meat, shaved ham
- Tuna on sandwiches (another healthy alternative: try canned tuna!)
Lunch Ideas
A yummy lunch can also be a healthy lunch, here are some great, simple and easy ideas for a healthy lunchbox:
- Vegetable soup in a flask (keep your child warm and healthy during cold winter days)
- Pasta salad (couscous are great too!)
- Muffins, scones, fruit bread
- Plain biscuits, crackers, rice wafers
- Sushi
You can make a healthy lunch with sandwiches, pita pockets and buns. You can fill it with any type of fillings, vegetables, meat and sauces - here are some great nutritional fillings - be creative!
- Mashed egg and salad
- Tomato and cottage cheese
- Ham and mustard
- Lettuce, ham, cheese, tomato
- Tuna, salad and/or cheese
Treat: use homemade muesli slice as a sometime treat in lunchboxes

Remember that opening packets or glad wrapped sandwiches can be difficult, so practice this at home or use containers
